Look at my division animation.
This week students have been changing division sums to multiplication sums.
Example:
12 divided by 3 is the same as 12=3 x ?
15 divided by 5 is the same as 15=5 x?
Students have been learning how to solve sums such as 3 x 356 by breaking up
356 into hundreds 300, Tens 50 and Ones 6 .
Strategies
Example
I want to know what 8X7 equals. So try 7X7 or 9X7.
If you use 7X7, you work out square numbers. Square numbers are like this: 2X2
3X3
4X4
5X5
and so on
7X7=49.
If you use 9X7, think of 10X7. 10X7=70. -7=63
The answer you have is 56
7X7=49
9X7=63
2X7=14
4X7=28
8X5=40+16=56
